Eye Contact - This is one of the simplest forms of of catching someones attention but it's often forgotten about. When you're talking in group of people or you catch his eye across the hall, instead of looking away, hold their gaze. You don't need to stare them down, just hold eye contact for about five seconds along with a friendly smile and then go back to what you were doing. This lets them know that they stand out to you and there's something that sparked your interest about them. Also, if you catch a guy making eye contact a lot and trying to hold your gaze, this could mean there's something more they would like to know about you.
Questions - There is no better way to find out more about a person then simply asking. The more you know about a person, the more you have to talk about. Next time you're together whether it's in a group or just the two of you, pay attention to what he is talking about and ask questions. If he is talking about his lacrosse game, you can ask what position he plays, how his game went, why he enjoys the sport, or how long he's been playing. Once you know the basics, it opens plenty of doors for more conversation and the more conversation you have, the better you begin to know each other. He will enjoy that you are interested in his hobbies and he'll take notice to how you're trying to get to know him better.
New activities - Is there something you've always wanted to try but just never got around to it? Ask if he would like to join you. Even if it's something you don't think you would be good at such as bowling, mini-golf or Frisbee golf. Trying new activities together will take away the uncomfortableness and force you to bond right away. This is also a great way to grow closer because you form inside jokes and stories that you can bring up after it's done. Did he get stuck with the hot pink golf ball? Next time you see him at school ask him if he would be interested in going bowling sometime and promise that you'll let him have the hot pink bowling ball. This will create an inside joke that just you two share and it will create a bond between the two of you.
These are great ways to get to know someone and have fun at the same time! Try them out this Summer with the cute new boy at the lake or that boy you can't seem to stop thinking about. Still can't figure out if he's interested in more than friends? Simply ask him. You will be unsuccessful at 100% of the things you don't try so work up the courage and tell him how you feel!
